When it comes to children’s placement, the schedule is so crucial to their future well-being. This is especially true with young children. It should not be purely about equality and fairness to the ex-spouse. The children are not a commodity to be split like your financial assets.
Consider that a “fair,” equal schedule would be every other day with each parent but this may not be best for the children. As difficult as this is, you must put aside the fairness aspect and think about what the day-to-day schedule is going to be like for the children. Will they be confused having to pack a bag? Will both houses contain toys and clothing? Will Dad give them frequent enough baths? Is Mom near enough to the bus stop? Will Dad forget to pick your daughter up from soccer? These types of problems will be contentious to you and your ex-spouse if they come up later and you have a 50/50 placement arrangement.
