Does my state follow the Community Property rule or the Equitable Property Distribution rule?

How your property will be divided during a divorce depends on what state you are divorcing in.  In nine states the Community Property rule is followed (Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin).  In other states the Equitable Property Distribution rule is followed. The intention of each of these rules is decribed further in articles in this section.
