Do child support and alimony payments have to be declared as income on taxes?

Just as payments of alimony and child support are treated differently for deductibility purposes, they are treated differently in declaration of income.  Child support received is not currently considered by the IRS to be income to the parent.  However, alimony received must be added to your income for purposes of calculating federal income tax.
