Titles describe the ownership of things you own. When you divorce, property changes hands from one spouse to another or from both of you to one of you. as soon as possible after the divorce you should make sure all assets are owned by one or the other of you, not owned jointly. Even if you divorce settlement clearly states who owns what, if you don’t make the title change you may have complications when you try to sell the asset. You also want to sever any liability between you when you divorce, and eliminating joint ownership helps protect you.
